Working with Coleg Sir Gâr
Our relationship with the college continued this year with three Animal Studies courses carrying out practical assessments at the kennels during term time.
This helps with the socialisation and assessment of the rescue dogs. The students regularly walked, groomed, health-checked, fed the dogs and cleaned accommodation as part of their City and Guilds courses, levels 1-3. September – June. Occasionally students are also let loose with a paint brush!!
11 Welsh Baccalaureate level 1 students completed their community service unit of 15 hours each at the kennels and were rewarded with a certificate which can be added to their C.V's.
Two level 3 students completed a week’s work experience working with both the rescues and show dogs. They provided regular exercise and socialisation for the rescues which was a great help. The two students were able to feed and clean out with very little supervision which gave Gordon a welcome break.
One level 3 student was lucky enough to be here when one of the show bitches gave birth to a litter of blue puppies and in September 2010, a Foundation Degree student will be completing her work experience unit at the kennels which will include a research assignment to increase the charities efficiency and hopefully raise some income as well.
